Helmets

Horse riding helmets, crash helmets for car and motorcycle riders, industrial safety hard hats and Police riot helmets can carry the Kitemark to show they will consistently offer you the best head protection available.

Kitemark head gear is tested for a range of different properties. They are dropped from heights of between 2 and 8 metres to check that they can withstand the impact. The chin straps are tested to make sure that they hold the helmet on the head correctly and will not slip. Exposure to weather can also affect the strength of the helmet so they are subjected to weathering tests where water is sprayed on to the helmets for 2 - 24 hours at a time with different climatic conditions. This checks that the helmet is made from suitable materials that will withstand exposure to sun, rain and wind in any combination.

The Kitemark symbol is regarded so highly that the British Equestrian Federation and the Pony Club will only allow riders to take part in an equestrian event if thy are wearing a Kitemark riding helmet.

Eye protection

These eye protection products are tested for robustness, low-medium-high energy impact, liquid splash, ability to keep out dust, gas and fine particles, molten metals and hot solids.
